How did you get started? Tell us your story!

As a group of 5 guys, we came together officially in 2018. We have all been creating music long before that. We started out only as a group of 3 producers named The Coalition, then we added on 2 artists, came up with the Coolassppl concept and now we are all artists. What is your experience in the music industry? Do you have any formal training or schooling? If not, are you self-taught and how did you learn your craft? What is your learning style? What are your favorite educational resources (ex. college, Youtube, etc.)?

As a group, we have varying experiences in the music game. We have produced for major artists such as Tinashe, MGK, Jay Rock & many more. Also, we have produced music that has appeared on HBO, ABC, MTV & many more channels through music licensing. We are all self-taught except for JuFresh who got an engineering degree with SAE Atlanta. As far as learning styles go we are all hands on. In general, we feel like you can watch as many videos as you want but you really don't fully learn it until you actually start putting the music into motion by creating it yourself & being hands on.

What are some credits and achievements that you have? Who have you worked with? Who have you collaborated with?

We have produced for: Tinashe, MGK, Jay Rock, Dej Loaf, Kirko Bangz, Jarren Benton, Xzibit, Kurupt, B-Real, Demrick, Serius Jones, Freeway, Rock City, Fashawn, Rock City & others.

Also we have done co-production work with the legendary J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. As far as music licensing goes one of our members production has been on every major TV network.

Who are your biggest influences growing up and why? Who do you like to listen to now and why? Who’s on your playlist right now?

There's so many because all 5 of us have different styles: Timbaland, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Pink Floyd, Just Blaze, Kanye West & Outkast. Right now our favorite thing to listen to is mostly new & relatively undiscovered artists on Spotify (their discovery platform is great). On our main playlist right now is Coolassppl (of course), Choker, DaniLeigh, Jabriel, Ramaj Eroc, A.Heard, Tobi Lou, Easy Ell, Octavian, Buddy, Tame Impala & Smino.

What are some of the biggest obstacles you’ve encountered or faced in this industry?

Everything. Just kidding, the creation part is easy. The recognition, outreach, networking & gaining respect is the hard part. So many people have told us we are amazing or dope but that doesn't keep the bills paid, getting someone to cut a check or lend support in a real & meaningful way is really difficult. Any artist or producer knows the struggle that trying to make it with their music is, our story is no different.

How would you describe your sound and style?

It's eclectic, fun & hard hitting at the same time. With 5 members coming from different parts of the country we can't help but have that eclectic style (South Carolina, Maryland, Louisiana & Texas). Even if someone may not like one of us there is going to be something in our music that almost everyone can gravitate towards.

What are some of your goals this year?

We want 500,000 streams on Spotify. We want to further the brand's visibility in general. We want to all profit from our creations and be a self-sufficient machine financially with our music. We also want to be happy, wake up in the morning and actually enjoy the work we put in to making music.

Who are the top 3 artists, producers, engineers, videographers, or others you would want to work with that you haven’t worked with yet?

Kanye West

Max Martin

What is your creative process like?

We create beats. Then we play them out loud. Then as a collective we pick the one that feels the best for that moment. Then we all write and record to it. We don't try to make it too complicated. The easier the process can be the better it will be. This answer is too simplistic but it's honest.

What’s your favorite go-to order?

Depends on the location, but we have a Cookout right up the street from us. A cook-out tray with almost anything you can put on it is good plus add a peach cobbler blueberry cheesecake milkshake.
