How did you get started? Tell us your story!
My name is Nahjel Williams. I’m from Baltimore, Maryland born and raised. I learned how to edit through gaming when I was young in 2015 (14yrs old). Gaming inspired me to pick up a camera and capture my own footage by the age of 17 in June 2019. Next thing I know I was shooting music videos with my cousin and friends from college. My passion for video production stems from gaming and the visual effects that give me satisfaction from creating. My best moments were the scenery and vibe I got from shooting in both Atlanta and Baltimore I fell in love with how peaceful the old fourth ward park was. And in comparison, Baltimore gave me hometown vibes in addition to the family connections I had that lead to my first video shoot.
What is your experience in the music industry? Do you have any formal training or schooling? If not, are you self-taught and how did you learn your craft? What is your learning style? What are your favorite educational resources (ex. college, Youtube, etc.)?
I go to school now at Georgia State University for Film and Media, currently, I’m in my sophomore year. I am self-taught but know I don’t know everything plus I can network in college as well which why I went to Georgia State University.
What are some credits and achievements that you have? Who have you worked with? Who have you collaborated with?
I had an internship with Think Its A Game Records (YFN Lucci’s Label) and I collaborated with them to learn about the industry and how it works.
What are some of the biggest obstacles you’ve encountered or faced in this industry?
The biggest obstacle is getting a name for your business and a standpoint to fall on being someone from another state trying to build a foundation in a state other than my hometown.
What are some of your goals this year?
My goal is to live on my own through my funds from video production. I also would love to mentor upcoming and aspiring students or film creators.
Who are the top 3 artists, producers, engineers, videographers, or others you would want to work with that you haven’t worked with yet?
Cole Bennett he just so creative and his visuals are well thought out. And HalfPint Filmz his edits are just too clean and as a black entrepreneur, you have to respect his hustle.
Who are your favorite directors? Who do you want to do a music video with?
Cole Bennett and I would love to do a Music Video with Wiz Khalifa just because of the vibes he gives off.
What kind of equipment do you have and why?
I have my own personal Canon Powershot 530sx but I love to shoot with my school’s equipment where I use a Canon Eos Rebel T6i with Autofocus and up to 60 frames per second of gorgeous quality.
What is your creative process like?
I like to write a treatment based on the song so I can fill the music video up with matching scenery and effects on the final product. I write tasks of scenes I need and equipment needed to make video standout then I go on to shoot the music video in addition to editing it.
What’s your favorite go-to order?
